Award availability changes frequently.
What the recorded finds show
A recorded find is the cheapest award fare a PointsGPT search returned in the cabin and on the dates the person asked for. The figures below are airline miles, one way, for one traveler, to Frankfurt (FRA). When your card points transfer at 1:1, the miles and the card points are the same number.
From New York (JFK, Newark and LaGuardia):
- Economy (22 finds, from 20 people): five were 12,000 points, and half were at or below 19,800. The cheapest were Virgin Atlantic fares that connected. 7 of the 22 were nonstop.
- Premium economy (5 finds): 30,000, 34,000, 71,500, 78,700 and 96,500 points.

Several of these city samples are small, so read them as a range.

Which programs priced these fares
Of the 334 Frankfurt finds, Flying Blue showed on the board for 201, Air Canada Aeroplan for 182 and United MileagePlus for 155. Flying Blue also priced the most finds, 77 of the 334, ahead of Aeroplan (72), United (35), American Airlines AAdvantage (32), Delta SkyMiles (32) and Alaska Atmos (24). In business, Aeroplan priced 66 of the 210 finds, ahead of Flying Blue (33). In economy, Flying Blue priced 28 of the 74 and Virgin Atlantic 13. See the programs PointsGPT searches.
These are the card points that reach each program, from the transfer grid PointsGPT uses:
- Flying Blue: Amex Membership Rewards, Bilt Points, Capital One miles, Chase Ultimate Rewards and Citi ThankYou Points, all at 1:1.
- Aeroplan: Amex, Bilt, Capital One and Chase at 1:1.
- United MileagePlus: Bilt and Chase at 1:1.
- AAdvantage: Citi at 1:1.
- Delta SkyMiles: Amex at 1:1.
- Alaska Atmos: Bilt at 1:1.
- Virgin Atlantic: Amex, Bilt, Chase and Citi at 1:1.
Partner lists and ratios change, so check your card's current partner list before you transfer. A transfer cannot be undone.
Watch the cash part, especially in business
Every award fare carries taxes and fees paid in cash, and some programs add carrier surcharges. On the recorded Frankfurt finds, the cash part depended on the program.
- Economy: most Flying Blue finds (27 of 28) and most Virgin Atlantic finds (12 of 13) carried three-figure cash charges, including the 12,000-point Virgin Atlantic fares. JetBlue TrueBlue split evenly, 6 three-figure and 6 two-figure. All 5 Delta finds carried single-figure charges.
- Premium economy: all 16 Flying Blue finds carried three-figure charges.
- Business: Aeroplan, the most common business program, was mostly two-figure (56 finds) with 6 three-figure. United was 23 single-figure and 7 two-figure. All 33 Flying Blue finds carried three-figure charges, and all 13 Qantas finds four-figure ones. Alaska Atmos was mostly four-figure (19 of 21), including the 45,000-point New York finds.
- AAdvantage business split 12 three-figure, 11 two-figure and 3 single-figure. The Dallas finds at 57,500 carried two-figure charges, while four of the five Miami finds at the same points price carried three-figure ones.
Add the points and the cash part together before you choose, and see the surcharge trap for why programs charge so differently for the same flight.
Plan your search
- Nonstop or one stop: the cheapest New York and Los Angeles finds we recorded connected. If a nonstop matters to you, search for it and compare the price.
- Two or more travelers: search for everyone at once. One award fare on a flight does not mean the same price is open for your whole party.
- Nearby hubs: if Frankfurt is tight, compare Amsterdam on points as well.
Points or cash?
Before you transfer, compare the award fare's full cost, the points plus the cash part, with the cash fare for the same flight. When the cash fare is already low, paying cash can keep your points for a trip where they cover more. Our guide to points versus cash covers the questions to ask.
How to search it in PointsGPT
Type the trip the way you would say it, for example:
Economy from New York to Frankfurt, any day in March, 2 travelers
- Tell PointsGPT which card points you hold, so it can mark the fares those points reach.
- Compare the points and the cash part on each fare, nonstop and connecting.
- Confirm the fare with the airline program before you transfer, because the transfer cannot be reversed.
When you are ready, start a search. If it comes back empty, widen the dates or try another departure airport.
Ask PointsGPT what your points can reach
