For many travelers, reaching the Maldives involves a long-haul flight to a hub followed by a shorter flight to Malé. Searching those portions separately can make the available routes easier to understand.
What our recorded finds show
A recorded find is the cheapest award fare a PointsGPT search returned in the cabin and on the dates the person asked for. We recorded only three finds to the Maldives from US departures, in October 2026. That sample is tiny, so read the figures below as three examples, not as a typical price.
All three were economy, to Malé (MLE), and none was nonstop. We recorded no business class find to the Maldives in this period. The figures are airline miles for one traveler, one way, as of 3 November 2026.

Each came through a different program. The Emirates and Virgin Atlantic fares carried a three-figure cash part, and the Aeroplan fare a two-figure one.
On these three fare boards, United MileagePlus, Qatar Airways, Flying Blue, Emirates Skywards, and Air Canada Aeroplan each appeared twice. That tells you which programs to check, not which will be cheapest.
Plan the route through a hub
None of the finds was nonstop, so the trip comes down to which hub you connect through and which program prices each portion. Gulf airlines such as Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Etihad connect through hubs on the way, and European and Asian hubs work too.
- Pick two or three hubs that make sense from your home airport.
- Search the long-haul flight to each hub for your dates.
- Search the hub to Malé portion for that day and the next, and keep the pairs that line up.
A program can often price flights on its partner airlines, so check more than one program for the same flight.
Search the long-haul and connecting flights separately
The long-haul flight is usually the most demanding part of the search and the portion where a premium cabin matters most. The shorter final flight may be easier to find and may cost less in cash than in points.
Looking at each portion separately can reveal dates that do not appear in a single end-to-end search. If you book separate tickets, leave enough time for the connection and account for the extra coordination they require. An airline on a separate ticket does not have to wait if your first flight runs late, so a long layover or a night at the hub lowers the risk.
Compare round-trip and one-way bookings
A round-trip award depends on one airline program having suitable availability in both directions. Separate one-way bookings let each direction stand on its own, and they can draw from different points balances.
This approach adds booking work, but it may provide more combinations of dates and airline programs.

Use flexible dates around popular travel periods
The Maldives has distinct dry and wet seasons, and demand affects award availability. Popular weeks can be difficult to book, while moving the trip by two weeks may produce a different set of fares. That flexibility also matters when comparing points with cash.
Add up the cash part
Every award fare carries taxes and fees paid in cash, and some programs add surcharges. On two tickets you pay that cash part twice, so add both before you choose. The surcharge trap explains why programs charge so differently.
Confirm the long-haul fare before transferring
