Winter Sun on Points: Four Routes from LA

These four award fares from Los Angeles, for November departures, were available as of 18 September 2026. They show what these routes have cost, not fares you can book now.

Los Cabos: 15,000 points

Through Alaska Atmos from Bilt, departing 3 November. Nonstop, under three hours, five fares showing, and a negligible surcharge.

This fare had the lowest points price of the four, along with one of the shortest flight times.

Cancun: 25,000 points

Same airline program, departing 27 November. Nonstop, just under five hours, seven fares showing.

Nassau: 27,500 points

Through AAdvantage from Citi, departing 13 November. This one carried almost no surcharge at all: single figures.

This fare came through a different airline program from the other three, a useful reminder to compare every program your points can reach.

Maui: 35,000 points

Through Alaska Atmos from Bilt, departing 26 November. Nonstop, just under six hours, nine fares showing, and a small surcharge.

This was both the longest flight and the highest points price in this four-fare comparison.

What later searches found

In recorded finds from September to November 2026, from every US departure city, economy prices to these places looked like this:

• Cancún (33 finds): half were at or below 12,800 points, and a quarter at or below 9,500. JetBlue TrueBlue priced 12 of the 33.
• Honolulu (12 finds): half were at or below 19,750 points.
• Maui (12 finds): half were at or below 24,400 points.
• Los Cabos (6 finds): half were at or below 21,250 points. The sample is small.
• Nassau: only two finds, both from New York, too few to show a pattern.

A recorded find is the cheapest award fare a PointsGPT search returned in the cabin and on the dates the person asked for. These are some of the finds from the Los Angeles area:

Business class: Mexico versus Hawaii

Business to Mexico cost far less than business to Hawaii in our finds. Half the Cancún business finds (10) were at or below 32,500 points, and half the Los Cabos ones (5) at or below 43,000.

Hawaii was different. Half the Honolulu business finds (18) were at or below 131,750 points, against 19,750 in economy. The five Maui business finds had a middle price of 131,500. The Los Angeles to Maui flight above runs just under six hours, so check whether the front cabin is worth that gap.

The cash part stays small

On the Hawaii finds, the cash part was mostly single figures: all 9 AAdvantage and all 4 Delta business finds to Honolulu, for example. The Mexico finds mostly carried two-figure cash parts, with three-figure ones on some Aeroplan and Avianca LifeMiles fares. None of these finds was recorded with the four-figure cash parts seen on some long-haul trips.

Choose based on the full trip, not points alone

The points prices ranged from 15,000 to 35,000. Flight length helps explain the pattern in this small group, but the airline program, date, cash alternative, and destination also matter.

Los Cabos required the fewest points here. Your best choice still depends on where you want to travel and how each award fare compares with its cash price.
